Fashion Files: Things That Sparkle
Hi All, Alex, from Things That Sparkle here. I am so excited to that Sara invited me to be a part of the "Fashion Files". This is such a fantastic idea for a series!! I am such an accessories addict, so it was a struggle to go through all of my stuff and pick favorites. In an effort to narrow it down, I decided to only include my favorite and most prized jewelry pieces.
For almost 10 years I designed, made and sold jewelry. It was the only way I could keep up with my constant taste for new pieces. After college, the real world took over and my time for jewelry making totally disappeared. Now, my favorite pieces are the ones that have meaning to me, and luckily I have quite a few of those!
1. Vintage, Italian, mosaic broaches. My grandparents traveled to Italy quite a bit when I was younger and always brought me back this little broaches from antique stores they would visit. As I got a little older I realized I didn't have a use for a broach, but if I made them into pendants, I would wear them all the time! Here are my three favorites:
2. Nantucket is such a special place to me. After taking my boyfriend there for the first time he fell in love too (luckily)!! After our visit there he surprised me with this bracelet. A gold coin with a cut out of the island shape, and best of all, all the proceeds go to Nantucket conservation efforts. I have worn this bracelet every single day for the past 5 years and dont really plan on ever taking it off!
3. This is another piece from my grandma (same grandma as the broaches). It is vintage Chanel, she thinks from the 50s. Isnt it gorgeous?? Its missing a pearl at the bottom, and another unknown stone in the center, but I don't even notice. I wear this piece all the time, it is so versatile. I love every single thing about it. What I love most is that it looks nothing like the jewelry Chanel comes out with now!
4. As much as I treasure jewelry that has meaning and history, I like a new piece here and there too! This one is brand new and I think we are soulmates. I saw it on a random lady, stopped her and ordered it that day. The designer has no website sadly, but his work is unreal! This piece goes with everything and makes a statement with any outfit. Its even better in person.
5. Last, but not even a little least... this ring. This is my most special piece of jewelry. This was my grandmother's (other side than broach) engagement ring. Yes, her actual engagement ring. Can you even imagine?? It is like a piece of art. After she passed away, I was lucky enough to be given this ring. It is such a treasure. I smile every single time I wear it.
Sara, thank you so much for asking me to stop by here today. It was so much fun to share!! xoxo
