Fashion Files: vmac+cheese
Hi everyone and happy Friday! I'm Victoria from vmac+cheese, and I'm beyond thrilled that Sara asked me to participate in her Fashion Files series. Here are my picks:
I live in San Francisco, and with the fog and wind, it's requisite to have a scarf collection. I think you can never have too many scarves, and I currently own several in various shapes, sizes and colors. I mostly will wear either the grey or light blue scarves, but I truly treasure the white, lavender and olive green scarf, and the navy and gold scarf, both silk and both gifts. I can totally see myself collecting silk scarves for years to come.
For me, it's typical to carry my normal everyday bag when I go out at night, but every now and again, I'll switch it up and use one of these carryalls instead. This herringbone clutch with pink grosgrain ribbon is "vintage" J.Crew (i.e., circa 2004 or 2005). The silver beaded bag is real vintage, something my grandmother used to wear to operas and plays. She gave it to me when I was in high school, and I still love it.
I have kind of a funny philosophy when it comes to jewelry. For one, I don't have pierced ears, so I can't have a simple daily accessory like earrings. Instead, I tend to gravitate towards statement pieces, but I try to only wear them singularly, or with other very simple pieces. I have an ever-growing collection of statement necklaces, and I can't lie, my addiction probably won't be sated any time soon! This is just a small sample:
In addition to all the big, colorful necklaces I like to accesorize with, I do of course have the keepsake items. The pearl necklace in the above photo is my mother's, but she gave it to me to wear at my senior prom. Since then (eons ago, it feels like!), I've worn it at my high school and college graduations, as well as on very special occassions. It's the kind of thing I'd grab if my house were on fire.
I also have collection of vintage costume jewelry my grandmother has given me. Some of my favorite pieces are here:
The earrings and the gold ruby ring are all things that belonged to my great grandmother (and the earrings are clip ons!). The gold watch is a mid-century Omega that worked up until very recently. It's a wind up, so I need to get it to a watch repair shop to see if it can't be fixed. Not so vintage is the green watch. This was the first gift Joe, my significant other, ever gave me. It was a Christmas gift in 2002, when we had recently started dating. Finally (and not so vintage either), I ADORE this braided chain bracelet, from J.Crew's fall jewelry collection last year. If I'm not wearing a statement necklace, you can pretty much bet I'm wearing this bracelet.
And last but not least, a piece I realized I need to wear a lot more often:
It doesn't look like much here, but on, this is an absolutely adorable white wool cape. This also belonged to my grandmother when she was a young girl (which just goes to show that everything old is new again). I've hung on to it for years, not wanting to give it away, and now I'm so glad I didn't! With the right outfit, capes are an adorable accessory. To be honest, I'd kind of forgotten about this cape when I found it hiding in the back of my closet, and am already scheming up an outfit I can wear it with. So thanks, Sara for helping me rediscover this piece!! :)
It's been such a blast seeing what everyone likes to accessorize with and I hope you enjoyed some of my favorites. Have a wonderful weekend and if you get a chance, come say hi to me on my blog!
Thank you Victoria for sharing your beautiful accessories. I love all of them, but I am specially fond of your grandmother's pieces. They make great family heirlooms.
