Decorating my family’s sanctuary

Oh my God! What a nightmare! I had such a challenging task organizing and decorating my living room. I wanted to make it many things at once: a fun place, family place, serious talk area, media room, "yell on everybody but don’t let anyone hear you" spot… the list goes on and on. And at the same time I wanted to make three generation feel cozy in the same chamber. Yes, it does sound impossible. Well, almost!

This calls for a family meeting!

I made everybody state their wishes on decoration and organization of this one. It took me ages to go through all of them, but in the end it turned out to be a good start. After all, we did agree on several important things. And we did have some real fun doing it after all.

Do you really want to put these colors together?

Well, it turned out that colors are important to everyone present at the meeting. The only problem was that we couldn’t find one that was ideal for all of us. That’s when it hit me! Let’s mix them up the way that nobody expects! Lively ones to attract the children to spend time in this room, and a mix of some stylish patterns for the sense of design and tradition. I must say WOW now when it’s all done.

What do you have against too much furniture? Well, noting efficient!

I realized that it would take a small stadium sized room to store all the furniture needed for the diversity of units that we stated. So multitasking it is! I made two entireties. I figured out - this way we can all be close to each other but stay occupied with different things.

I need a rough boy

I remember my first sofa. Not the finest piece of furniture. At the time I didn’t know much about anything. Salesman could sell any and every story to me back then. Anyway, things changed from the beginning of the millennium. I know that durability is as important as it looks. Of course, I always try to get the best of both worlds. After all, durable and good looking – isn’t that what every lady wants?

The missing link

By the time I placed all my furniture and my family bashfully started showing up for the test drive, I realized something was missing. Of course, details. Intimate little details. Things I was collecting through the years as a reminder of some good times, fun places, nice people or just brought good feelings to me. I thought – find as many as you can and try to sort them into categories so they can be placed correctly. It didn’t take me long to realize I was wrong. First of all, I am building the place where fun stuff is supposed to happen and nice memories made. So yes, get some details, but leave some room for new ones yet to come. Second, there is no law against mixing shapes and colors and no penalty for placing a poster next to a picture. Don’t miss some posters to check from Barewalls.com. Experimenting is the key to a successful decoration setup.

Happy weekends

Now, after all is said and done, I can just say I nailed it. Even the coffee stains don’t bother me that much – they kind of ad up to the loose atmosphere of the room.
