The Dos & Don'ts of Instagram

saramueller_instagramdosdonts1I am by no means an expert on this subject - I still have a long way to go. But often times I get asked questions about my Instagram photos. I've been taking notes and decided to share the little I have learned over the last year with you here.Taking Care of Business: The Dos + Don'ts of InstagramDos- Post original photos.- Always shoot your photos with natural light.- Cloudy days are best to eliminate shadows and prevent overexposing your photos.- Post on Sundays. I read somewhere that Sundays are the days you'll get more likes and likely more followers.- In that same article, I read that photos without a filter {shot at natural bright light} get the most likes.- Have a color theme that tie your posts together.- Think of a smart narrative or caption if you will. I struggle with this one quite too often. Thank goodness for the edit feature now available.- Emojis. They can add some lightheartedness to a post. They can also give the appearance that you are approachable and friendly. I sometimes forget to add them myself.- Hashtag lightly within your caption.- Find new ways to stay inspired.Don'ts- Don't post if you are feeling uninspired.- Too much sun can cause your photos to look overexposed. Beware of the bright sun.- Don't overuse emojis in one post.- Don't over-hashtag your post with your initial narrative/caption. Add them later in the comments.- If you use the LikeToKnow.it app, don't use it on every single post or for that matter on the majority of your posts. Pick wisely what posts should get them.- If the image doesn't belong to you, don't post it unless you have the proper source. Tag them in your post and narrative if you plan on reposting the image.
