Weekend Trip: Ocracoke Island
The off-season may not be the best time to visit the Outer Banks, but I'm still glad I got to check this place from my bucket list. We took the long and more scenic route as we were en route to Virginia Beach. The kids enjoyed the trip and they could have cared less if it was the high or low season. Although they would have appreciated getting wet at the beach if it had been summer. If you plan a visit to the Outer Banks, I would recommend late spring or summer as you can take advantage of the beach, biking around town, seeing the beautiful flowers that bloom on island, and actually have more than one or two options to eat at.Transportation: Book your ferry before so that you can get information on cancellations due to inclement weather conditions. In town, you can rent golf carts or bikes. The island isn't very big so I would recommend sightseeing the island on golf carts or bikes.Where to stay: You can rent cottages if you are planning on staying for a week or more. For a couple days I would recommend a bed and breakfast. Since we only stayed one night, we stayed at Captain's Landing.Where to eat: Eduardo's Taco Truck {good Mexican food}, Zillie's Island Pantry, Ocracoke Coffee Co.What to do: beach and bike in a quaint little island
