A Blank Slate

new-home-update-kitchen-saramueller new-home-update-windows-saramuellerFor the past few weeks, we've been living out of a hotel waiting for our new home to be move-in ready. As you can see from the photos above, it's a big small blank space. But, I've been busy pinning ideas to figure out how to make our new home work for us and how to make it more stylish. And I hope one day it will lead to a full on house tour. The home has a lot of great features and these are the things that made us love this house: it has an immense amount of natural light, beautiful {almost} wall-to-wall windows in the main living area, a cozy little patio, it has been completely renovated, and it's on a golf course with great family-friendly ammenities. One of my favorites features is that the wall-to-wall windows allow the patio to be an extension of the living area. We already have plans to make the patio a cozy little escape surrounded by potted tropical plants and citrus trees to really take advantage of Miami living. I'm expecting that the Florida weather will allow us to use our cozy little patio at least half the year. I can already picture myself entertaining outside and hosting summer soirees. But get this - we are downsizing almost by half of the square footage we had in our previous home. That's city living. That also means I had a long list of wants and some of the bigger homes we saw just didn't make the cut. That means I'll have to get creative and sell or donate a lot of our existing furniture. While downsizing worried me at first, I'm now excited and open to the idea of adapting a more minimalistic lifestyle. Ultimately I chose style over more square footage while taking our budget into consideration. After all, this will be our home for the next 3 to 4 years and style {and the neighborhood} won over size. Quality over quantity - always!Stay tuned for more updates as we move in to the new house. I already have a project or two in the works.
