Redefining Healthy Living in My 30's

Sometime in December, I made the mistake to cut off a few inches of my hair, and the result was not what I was expecting. Overall, it turned out to be just a bad haircut and the length could have worked just fine. But it was this bad haircut that prompted me to change up my beauty and fitness routine. I was pretty unhappy with my whole look. My balayage needed a refresh, my sun spots on my face were worsening despite my daily sunscreen application, and then after a week of suffering from the flu I realized how little I take care of my health. My self-esteem was at its lowest. And yes, all prompted by a bad haircut. It's embarrassing to admit how it all went downhill after that haircut and a case of the flu. It was sort of like a wake up call that I need to change a few bad habits.

Most of my life, I've considered myself to be a healthy person, but I guess that as I get older I should be redefining what healthy means to me. My one rule of everything in moderation may no longer apply. Having pizza once a week is fine, but not if I'm going to eat half the whole pizza. There was a time in late 20's were I could totally do that, but not anymore -- even if it's just once a week. I guess what I'm saying is that I probably need to redefine my rule of everything in moderation as well.

Now being in my mid 30's, my metabolism isn't what it used to be and my skin isn't either. And my muscles could also use some toning up. So instead of complaining and whining about all the things that brought me to my low self-esteem, I started looking for solutions to my problems -- and most of those problems have easy solutions. Thank goodness!

To fix my bad haircut, I went to one of my favorite stores where all the girls just seem to have perfect hair days, everyday. Ugh! Why can't that be me? I asked for recommendations and they quickly made some suggestions. I'm happy to report that a hair appointment has been made to reshape my hair and refresh my balayage.

To attack those sun spots, I knew I needed to change up my beauty routine. I added this 2-step daily peel that exfoliates to remove the dead skin cells, and immediately nourishes the newly revealed layer of skin with hydrating, anti-aging ingredients. I'm loving it because it fights signs of aging including fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores and uneven skin texture. My other obvious step was to apply sunscreen more than just once a day on really sunny days. But I know that I need more than these products for my sun spots so a dermatology appointment has been scheduled. A few new bareMinerals products have also been added to my daily routine. I'm especially excited about the Skinlongevity Serum that's made with their patented long-life herb extract to promote skin's vitality and reawaken the look of youth.

To be in better health, the two obvious solutions are 1) to start exercising; and 2) to redefine what healthy means to me. The hard part is that I'm finding it hard to fit in a gym hour in my schedule, but I'm working on it. I may need to go back to my anywhere workout routine. One thing that is extremely helping me stay on track is to live by my calendar. I'm working on adding my workouts for the week and I shall treat them like very important appointments -- and in reality they should be.

If you are curious about what beauty products I rely on, here's my trusty list:
