Christmas At Home

Honestly, Christmas comes and goes every year way too fast. The Christmas tree came down today as it was really looking like a fire hazard. It wasn't so much the pine needles everywhere, it was that all of the ornaments were starting to droop a little too much. And nothing makes me sadder than undoing all of the festive decor. So, I'm holding on to Christmas for just a bit longer with our homemade gingerbread village and our fairy lights.

But, let's go back a few days so that I can share our Christmas with you. The kids were in school up until the 23rd and Christmas just didn't seem the same. I think I prefer having them a few days before Christmas to get even more into the holiday -- making and decorating cookies, our gingerbread house, reading holiday books and watching our favorite holiday movies in the middle of the day, or simply just staying up a little longer. Anyway, we sure did make up for it because we pretty much baked all day of Christmas Eve -- cookies for Santa and what turned out to be a little gingerbread village.

We actually started the festivities with Christmas Fettuccine and The Holiday the day before Christmas Eve.

We let the gingerbread dry before we glue them together. Sadly, mine big gingerbread house broke, but most importantly, we had the kiddos' houses to finish and display.

The elves always surprise the kids with new books and some years, new pajamas. Our new favorites here: Home, Extra YarnVirginia Wolf, The Wonderful Little Squishy, Gaston, Daisy and Josephine, and Henry's Bright Idea.

I filled their stockings with these Meri Meri Christmas crackers I found, Skittles in a candy cane, red tights for Ems, and a Santa puzzle for Andy, among other things.

This is our second Christmas in Miami, and we love heading to the beach the day after Christmas. It sure beats those post-Christmas blues -- sand castles, ocean air, and salty hair seems to be our perfect remedy.
