Sunshine Awaits

There's been some chilly days mixed with some beautiful days. And on those beautiful days, if we can escape to the pool we do. Well mostly initiated and instigated by Ems. She's our water baby. Ems could literally spend all afternoon swimming in the pool.

Our latest thing is that we'll get our bikes out and ride over to our neighborhood pool, even though it's a fairly short walk. It's a nice excuse to go for a bike ride before we hit our destination. And also, much easier to haul all of our gear to the pool.

For Christmas, Ems got a new big girl bike. She upgraded to this 20-inch bicycle as she quickly outgrew her 16-inch bike. I mean for being just 6 years old, my little girl is a pretty tall girl. The tallest in her class. She was pretty ecstatic that Santa knew just what kind of bike she wanted. The only thing missing is a little basket to haul her own little things. But we quickly rectified that and this little basket is already on its way.

She also just got a new Minnow swimsuit. We went with the French Blue and she loves it. Although we may need a pink too!

With all the vitamin D, I mean sun exposure we get here in Southern Florida, I always make sure to teach the kids about sun protection -- wearing a hat, applying sunscreen, and also limiting our sun exposure. But that sun exposure limitation can be hard, since the weather is mostly warm year-round here in Miami.

And unfortunately, there are some days that we over do it and get little sunburns. But for that, I do have a great homemade remedy. And it's 100% organic.

Sunburn Soothing Spray

1/2 cup liquid aloe vera juice1/8 cup fractionated coconut oil10 drops lavender essential oil10 drops peppermint essential oil

In a small double boiler, add coconut oil and aloe vera juice. Stir, waiting for the mixture to liquify and combine. Once combined, remove from double boiler and add in the oils, mixing well. Pour into spray bottle and store in cool place.

If you’re escaping the cold winter or already getting ready for spring break next month and heading to a beach somewhere, pack this DIY sunburn soothing spray. Or just save this recipe to make later. We can’t live without it here in Southern Florida.
