Homemade Brightening Grapefruit Facial Scrub
You'll normally find me gifting baked goods to friends for Valentines, such as my homemade heart cookies. This year, I thought I would switch it up. And although I'll be gifting them a little Ethos chocolate treat, I'm also adding a thoughtful and useful homemade little something that I'll know they'll love.
As I was whipping this brightening grapefruit facial scrub for myself, I decided to quadruple my recipe and gift to my friends. This gentle facial scrub will brighten dull skin and give you that glow you want. Here's to radiant healthy-looking skin!
I save all my jelly jars and I thought they would be the perfect little containers for my facial scrub. They're glass, look pretty and most importantly, seal well. My friends will be thanking me and asking for more or even the recipe!
And P.S. It's not just for the face. Use it on your body and hands too!
Brightening Grapefruit Facial Scrubyields 4 small jars2 - 3 cups sugar {depending on consistency you want}½ grapefruit, juiced12 drops lavender essential oil6 drop tea tree essential oil, optional3 tablespoons jojoba oil or avocado oilTo make:Juice half a grapefruit, then strain any seeds or pulp. Combine the juice and sugar into a bowl and then pour in the jojoba oil. Mix and add the essential oils; stir to incorporate. Fill your jars with the scrub and refrigerate. To clean skin:Gently apply a small amount of scrub to the face, careful to avoid the delicate eye area. Be sure to use light pressure with only your middle and ring fingers to spread the scrub in circular motions. Spend extra time on your lips and rinse with warm water. I follow with my homemade glow stick, hydrating serum and/or moisturizer. Scrub can be preserved in refrigerator for up to a week. Why I'm using lavender and tea tree essential oils in this recipe? Lavender is soothing and calming for the skin, and tea tree is an anti-inflammatory oil that also helps to soothe and relieve painful and irritated skin. It may also help to reduce redness and swelling. So if you summer from rosacea {like me!} or have blemishes, this is really good for your skin. But even if you have great skin, a little brightening scrub won't hurt either.
