Moments at Home
I finally feel like I have a few moments to myself. The house is finally feeling like a home, the boxes have been unpacked, and a few pieces of new furniture have arrived. After neglecting the blog for a while I wanted to pop in and share a few recent moments in our new home.
A week within arriving in DC, we celebrated our 12th year anniversary on June 30. In the midst of unpacking, setting up our house, and building furniture, we took a much needed break to celebrate our anniversary and also our arrival to our new home. A quick run to the supermarket to get our favorite champagne and take out completed our evening. And honestly after working non-stop all day it was all we wanted to do. At that point, the kitchen was the only "finished" room in the house. Luckily enough, we had our new glassware to drink from as somehow we didn't have wine glasses in Miami. Yes that's right. At some point they broke and I never replaced them as I knew our move was coming.
Now looking back to our first few days of living in our new house I get all the warm and fuzzy feelings. Every room was covered in boxes, and some rooms were pretty much empty with no furniture. But during those days, I felt stressed and overwhelmed, and completely felt out of sorts in our new house, our new city. I remember looking in our living room covered in boxes and saying to myself,"this will never end," with a big, heavy sigh. It really felt that way.
It's funny how now I see everything so different. I loved those days even though they felt sleepless. I loved the time Andrew and I spent working together, unpacking, getting settled, shopping for furniture, building said furniture, and making all those trips to Target and Home Depot that are inevitable. It was pretty impossible to even put a homemade dinner together, and we would finally sit around 9pm to eat a meal. Sometimes 10pm. Uber Eats was our best friend during those nights.
I'll be sharing more finished spaces of our home here soon. There's still a lot to do, but it's looking better each day.
P.S. I've started linking some of our rooms in the LiketoKnow.it App. You can see how our spaces are coming along and what we've bought for the new house.
