House Details

To recap our life so far, we recently returned from South America after one wonderful year of living there. We are now calling North Carolina our home. Before we moved stateside, we had decided that it was the right time to buy a house even though in about 4 years the hubby's job will take us back to South America. We found our new home on the first day we arrived to North Carolina. I had seen it online and kept coming back to it, so when we drove from the in-laws house down to North Carolina, I suggested to the hubby that we drive straight to this house I had seen. As soon as we drove through the neighborhood and saw the exterior of the house, I knew it had to be ours. This was on Sunday (a week ago) and I told the hubby that I was calling our realtor so that we could see the inside and the hubby thought I should wait until Monday. I called anyway and the realtor agreed to meet us. We went in and I immediately knew that it was our house. Just to make sure the hubby suggested we look at least 5 more houses the next day which we did, but both our minds kept coming to this one. Long story short, we put an offer to later find out that there might be another offer coming. We were both very nervous about going into a bidding war. Thank goodness the other offer never came in and we are now under contract. We are scheduled to close on May 29, but we are trying to move in prior to the closing date to get the house ready prior to the arrival of our new baby (June 5) and get out of hotel living. Here are some house details:
Our new house overlooks this bay. It is unbelievable to have such a view just across our front door.
The hubby and AJ are already planning on doing plenty of fishing and crabbing on the weekends.
The house sits on a half-acre lot and the house itself is over 2,500 square feet.
I am already planning a vegetable garden in the spacious backyard.
A two hundred-year old tree is in our backyard. We are planning to build a tree house.
The hubby has already chosen the design plan.
I am showing you the first floor only. I will wait on the bedrooms until we have some furniture in them.
This is the entry/foyer. I love the front door, the stairwell, and hardwood floors.
This is the kitchen, but it needs some small updates to give it the look we want. Within the next month we are changing the current formica countertops to kashmir white granite, changing the backsplash to white subway tile (to look like this) and installing two pendant lights over the island.
I finally have my butler's pantry and a walk-in pantry. This countertop will also be changed to granite.
The dining room is one of my favorite rooms in the house. The only change I would
make is to change the chandelier.
And this is the family room. It is such a big room at 20 x 18 feet.
I already have plans on how to maximize the space.
The only spaces in the first floor not shown are the breakfast nook and the powder room.
Once breakfast nook is furnished I will show it to you. This past weekend we found some new furniture, including a sofa for the family room. I will share those purchases and some ideas for the house tomorrow.
