Mommies Behind the Blog: Sarah of Flourish Design and Style
After rushing around feeling completely overwhelmed trying to get myself + 2 kids ready for school, beds made, breakfast... I started this year getting up at 6am.. a shower and coffee while the house is quiet is the best way to start the day! I'm all ready by 7am when I wake the girls.. no rush, no cranky Mom :)
WHAT IS YOUR "MOMMY UNIFORM" ON MOST DAYS?
I'm embarrassed to tell you ;) Winter is my weakness.. in the summer I immediately get dressed in shorts, Tory Burch sandals and a cute top, but this winter I found Monrow Vintage Sweats and oh boy.. they are adorable, and cute and so so comfy. Working from home has let me indulge in this little slice of heaven! When I HAVE to get dressed, ha ha, kidding! I love white jeans winter or summer, Current Elliott denim, easy casual tops like Free People and T by Alexander Wang with a Vince sweater thrown over top and Tory Burch boots!
WHAT IS YOUR BEAUTY AND/OR EXCERSIE ROUTINE?
Super Simple. I try my best to drink water all day… I swear by It Works eye cream and face cream I was without it for two weeks and my face took a toll, it was crazy the difference, age set in really fast! I use all Bobby Brown makeup and my hair is a quick partial straighten partial curling wand and it's always left a bit mussed whether down or in a pony.. it's just my thing :)
WHAT WOULD YOU TELL YOUR 22-YEAR OLD SELF?
That your life is going to turn out amazing. All your hard work, crazy hours and never getting to see your husband because you're both working too hard WILL be worth it! Everything has a way of falling into place.
HAVE YOU HAD TO HIRE OUTSIDE HELP {HOUSE CLEANER AND/OR BABYSITTER} TO HELP FULFILL ANY OF YOUR DUTIES?
I haven't.. I'm kind of crazy about my house.. we vacuum and mop every night once the girls are in bed, I love to wake up to a clean house. All house work needs to be done and the house perfect before I can sit down to work. House is a mess = me a mess!
WHO IS YOUR ROLE MODEL?
I'm so blessed to have amazing women in my life.. I have always looked up to my Mom, I hope my girls and I have the same relationship we did when I was growing up and still do. My best friend is a rock and a superstar and can cook like the devil, she's so grounded and real and lives in the moment and has taught me to do the same. My sister is my biggest cheerleader and encourages everything I do.. isn't that how we should all treat each other?! #blessed
WHAT ARE YOUR HOLIDAY TRADITIONS OR ANY YOU ARE STARTING WITH YOUR KIDS?
I'm not the biggest holiday celebrating girl.. eek. A few things we do do for Christmas are.. we collect ornaments. Every time we head out during the holiday season, Christmas shopping, buying our holiday greenery..we pick out ornaments. It's making little mini memories about the small stuff :) We also buy new pyjama's for the whole family for Christmas eve.. just so everyone can open one gift!
WHAT IS YOUR SECRET TO HAVING A SUCCESSFUL BLOG/JOB AND FAMILY BALANCE?
When I started blogging 5 years ago it was a full time job. I'm pretty sure my kids were slightly neglected. I'm not proud to admit that! #truth Over the years I've slowed down my blogging, picking it up when I'm inspired too.. I actually thought about quitting once, but was reminded by someone very smart that my blog is me and my job.. people know me and trust me because of the connections we've made through my blog. It's such a crucial part of my business and who I am! My girls are 8 and 6 now so I definitely have more time to devote to blogging when I want to!
HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR HOME KID-FRIENDLY?
Ahh… I've always had a place for toys to go at the end of the day so I could unwind, no matter how small our house was, there was always a place. That answer is completely backwards to your question, but I can't deal with kid stuff every where! For so many years while kids are little it consumes your whole life.. now we have a bonus room that I am in the midst of decorating for the girls.. it's going to be a fun whimsical hang out spot!
