A Healthy Lifestyle

Exercise-EquipmentAt the end of summer I was faced with a whole new routine as my son started full-time school that required me to drop him off and pick him up from school. Instead of getting up to sit at my desk and work, I now had to get up and get ready for the day for drop off. On some days I would run errands after dropping him off. My "work" hours reduced as I was now on the road at least 2 hours of the day on top of school activities. But as I was adjusting to this new routine, I thought if I'm going to make changes, I better make them count. Before I had kids, I was big on working out and at times obsessive about it. Once I had kids, fitting a work out everyday or regularly for that matter hasn't been always easy, but I love the advice my husband gave me one day. He said I had to make exercise part of my lifestyle, like a lifetime commitment. And as I look back it has always been a commitment and there are times that I don't get a workout in a week or months, but as long as I jump back on an excersice routine eventually, I feel good. With both of my pregnancies {I was blessed with healthy pregnancies} I managed to exercise regularly. I had a personal trainer with my first pregnancy and with the second I was a Pilates Reformer fan.Like I said, if I'm adapting to a new routine I better make it count. I'm changing a bit of my eating habits and I now have a regular exercise routine in place. And I'm committed to make time for these things.Eating habits: I used to skip breakfast during the weekday and now I'm making a healthy smoothie instead. I'll drink half of my smoothie before my workout and the second half after for an energy boost. In case you are interested, I'm sharing my green smoothie recipe below.Exercise habits: Instead of trying to fit a workout routine in the middle of the day, I'm committed to starting the day with a workout. My regular workout routine now consists of a combination of Pilates, Cardio, and Yoga. {Pilates on Monday, high-intesity cardio on Tuesday with weights as well, low-impact cardio on Thursday, and I finish the week with Yoga on Fridays}.If you have any tips on adapting to a healthy lifestyle, I would love to hear them in the comments.Green Smoothie {yields 2 servings}1 big handful of kale1 handful of baby spinach1 banana, ripe1/2 apple, cored and peeled1/3 cup of fresh berries {or frozen}1 scoop of protein powder1 packet of vitamin C {Emergen-C}12 - 16 oz of coconut water {or plain or flavored}Blend and enjoy. Refrigerate the leftover. I add the vitamin C especially during cold months to boost my immune system from colds.Image: Domino via PopSugar
