A Long-Distance Friendship Story

Two girls - one currently living in the south and one currently calling the mid-west home. For those of you who don't know, Mandy and I first interacted with each other way back last year when I designed her family room for her {see here}. That seems like years ago. Anyway, late last year I received the sweetest email from her that somehow I ended reading a couple months later. I immediately replied and apologized for my super late response. We immediately connected through instagram and we ended up exchanging numbers. Our friendship grew over a couple of months as we would text each other for opinions and such. Then one day, I suggested I needed a girls trip to Charleston before my husband leaves on deployment and asked her if she would come. {For months, I kept telling Natalie I needed to go down to Charleston to meet her.} I was so surprised that Mandy agreed as we had never met in person or talked on the phone and I'm sure she was surprised by me asking. We just clicked that much that we both didn't even think twice about it. Anyway, Mandy and I managed to convince each of our husbands and the husbands quickly agreed. When we both got the okay, we immediately came up with the dates.

For the next few months, we would text each other about recent purchases, or ask ideas on home decor, the upcoming trip to Charleston, etc. Planning the trip was part of the excitement as we would not only meet each other, but the rest of the Charleston crew.

Anyway, back to recent events, I drove on Friday since Charleston is only a few hours away. I picked Mandy up at the airport and the minute she jumped in my car I knew we would totally click. We broke the ice pretty quickly, and talked about everything and anything. It was like we knew each other for years. We were also roommates at the hotel we stayed so we would stay up way past our normal bedtimes talking like we were best friends. We shared our dreams and hopes and one of us might have even cried. Yes, we bonded just like best friends do. I am so glad for this opportunity and for being able to call her one of my best friends.

We were also on the same page as what to do while we were in Charleston which made things even easier. We talked, instagrammed, photographed, shopped and enjoyed every meal we had. We connected with Natalie of course, Caycee, Chassity, and Amy as you may already know. It was an awesome trip and one that will always be a special one for all the friendships we made. We hope to make this an annual event, maybe in a different city each year.

Thanks Mandy for sharing this journey with me. It was such a great weekend!
