Spring Planting

monrovia-spring-planting-saramuellerIt's no secret I have a black thumb. The hubby always cringes when I bring a new plant home because he knows if he's not around, then the likelihood of said plant surviving is minimal. Between you and I, the only reason our fiddle fig tree is still thriving is because it requires very little care. Every year, however, I make an effort to turn that black thumb into a green thumb and little by little, practice by practice, it's slowly turning a very pale green.

One of my goals this spring, was to bring more flowering plants into our patio. Because I do love flowers and the idea of a proper garden makes me very happy -- especially for those al fresco dinners I love. So because it's spring and to make my dream garden a reality, a trip to my local Monrovia garden center was in order. And little Ems made the trek with me.

As much as I'm enjoying being surrounded by the Florida palms and foliage, I was craving some more traditional flower plants. A fragrant white gardenia shrub, a perennial in the form of a pink verbena, and a beautiful blue hydrangea later, my goal of turning our backyard patio into a beautiful spring oasis is quickly becoming a reality. I've also added a white Floribunda rose bush to the mix.

So if you are wondering how I'll be keeping these plants alive, the answer is Monrovia. Because of my not-so-secret black thumb, I've been reading more about plants and how to take care of them. Monrovia has been my guide to all plant-related things. It's been a great resource for me. Especially learning about what types of plants to grow in our new zone.
