Chocolate Mousse Recipe

This chocolate mousse is a treasured family recipe which normally makes an appearance during Christmas. But this year, I thought it would be fun to turn it into a spooky Halloween treat. Once it's chilled, you can add some oval cookies as tombstones or some pumpkin candy treats. I hope you enjoy!

Chocolate Mousse Recipe1 1/4 cup crushed chocolate wafers7 tablespoons sugar, divided {3 for the crust, 4 for the chocolate mixture}4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted1 {12-ounce} package semisweet chocolate morsels2 cups whipping cream1 teaspoon vanilla extract6 eggs, separated1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.2. Lightly grease a 9-inch springform pan.3. Using a food processor, crush the chocolate wafers.4. Add butter and 3 tablespoons sugar to the crushed wafers, and pulse in food processor until combined.5. Press the crumb mixture onto the bottom of your springform pan.6. Bake the crust about 8 minutes until it firms. Set aside to cool.7. While the crust bakes, place chocolate morsels in large bowl over hot water and stir occasionally to melt. Set aside to cool.8. Combine cream, vanilla, and 2 tablespoons sugar and whip to firm but not stiff.9. Separate yolks and egg whites into different bowls and whisk.10. Beat egg whites, gradually adding 2 tablespoons sugar, until stiff.11. Add yolks to cooled melted chocolate and beat well in mixer.11. Add 1/4 of eggs whites to chocolate mixture and beat.12. Fold in remaining egg whites and whipped cream.13. Pour chocolate mixture over the crust and chill overnight or at least 4 hours.
