A Commitment To Being Fit

I'm determined to be in the best shape of my life. Honestly, I don't know what's stopping me. I've had my gym membership for a while and never took advantage of that one free personal training session until a few days ago. That did it! He measured my body fat and tested my strength, among other things, and you know what? I was surprised that I'm not in as bad shape as I thought I would be. So if I stick with this, I'll start noticing a big difference in my body and in my mental health too in just a few weeks.

And I do believe it's best if you workout with a friend because they can certainly help to motivate you. Thank goodness I've made a few friends that are making this a priority in their lives as well. We've been meeting every morning at the gym after dropping off the kiddos at school. But with any new routine I add, somethings gotta give, and I need to be ok with that. So maybe I get to wake up earlier, or blog later, or clean the house later, but I need to take care of me first. Yes me, because I normally put everything before my health and my own wellness.

I'm so excited and hopefully soon, I'll start noticing my body and mind feeling better. I also added a new super green smoothie to my mornings and I'm loving it. Here's my recipe.

Super Green Smoothie

1 handful of watercress1 handful of spinach4 strawberries {or any other berry}2 - 3 slices of raw beet1 tablespoon of grated ginger1 cup of almond milk1/4 cup of overnight oats1 scoop of protein powder, optional

Blend until bright green and enjoy!

Why I choose to add the ingredients above:

Spinach and watercress: two great super foods, and this way I get a couple servings of greens in my day.

Berries: full of antioxidants and good for you.

Beets: high in immune-boosting vitamin C, fiber, and essential minerals like potassium {essential for healthy nerve and muscle function) and manganese {which is good for your bones, liver, kidneys, and pancreas}, support detoxification {helping to purify your blood and your liver}, and help fight inflammation.

Ginger: helps your digestive system and also helps reduce inflammation.

You may notice a recurring theme here -- inflammation. I started waking up with these puffy eyes and after researching what foods to eat to help reduce inflammation, beets and ginger came up. And since I don't consume a lot of sodium, I didn't know what foods to eliminate from my diet. So I decided to add beets and ginger to my smoothie. I do suffer from seasonal allergies so that may be the reason too, but regardless, beets and ginger seem to be doing the trick.
